Cultivation of Rhodotorula Toruloides Using Palm Oil Mill Effluent: Effect on the Growth, Lipid Production, and Waste Removal

Using Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) as a medium for culturing oleaginous yeast is advantageous simultaneous lipid production and waste removal. The organic compounds in POME can be utilised nutrient source growth. Rhodotorula toruloides was cultivated filtered unfiltered raw growth media this study. growth, pH changes media, removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) were examined compared to grown peptone dextrose (YPD) control media. COD level reduced by nearly 50% after filtration. biomass concentration surpassed the other following order: > YPD (152 mg/ml 121 37 mg/ml). found favourable due minimal amount colloidal particles suspended solids. Meanwhile, (4.51 %) 4.8-fold higher than water analysis indicated about 43% reduction, signifying ability utilise components present This study provides insightful knowledge on utilisation green disposal sustainable microbial oil production.
